¡Bienvenido a Vejer y al Colegio de Español, La Janda! Studying Spanish with us means much more than just a Spanish language course. After years dedicated to the teaching of Spanish, La Janda has recently changed hands and we hope to continue to build on the excellent reputation of the school. We feel that the school offers an excellent opportunity for students to experience the Spanish way of life in a small, beautifully conserved town just off the stunning coast of Cádiz. www.lajanda.org

Having fun at La Feria de Jerez 2011
Wow, what a scorcher it was on Saturday. Arriving in Jerez in spring time you are greeted by a beautiful display of purple flowering plum trees on all the streets made a good start to the day
Jerez Spring Horse Festival is a week long feria, which dates back hundreds of years. It is an important event in the equestrian and social calendar. One gets the distnct impression it is definatley the place to be seen. Everywhere you look it is a photo opportunity, a real display for the senses, with the lights, the beautifully decorated casetas (marquees), the stunning flamenco dresses, and hundreds of horses and carriages parading along the central paths. We couldn´t resist the temptation to take a ride in one of the carriages, and it was great to get to see just how large it is! Streets of casetas, each with their different themes, each servin food or drinks and at night with different live shows of flamenco
In the afternoon we found a caseta which was lots of fun, with lots of Sevillnas dancing going on, and there were some hosts who encouraged us all to get on the dance floor. Some of us stayed late into the night and the feria was still going strong. At night the lights are a sight to behold.

Feria de Primavera 2011
The last weekend has been a 24hour party in Vejer, with the start of the Feria season. Feria de Primevera (Spring Festival) is a stunning display of all things Andalucian. For foreigners it is hard to believe that the council would support a 24 hour party, for almost 4 days which caters for all ages and interests, it´s great.
During the day there are displays of livestock, horses, doma vaquera, flamenco, sevillanas along with countless marquees each with their own line up of musicians and performances, and tapas. There is a huge fairground to keep the kids occupied. On Friday it is ´el Dia de las Mujeres`, the Day of Woman which is a perfect excuse for the women to dust off their flamenco dresses and adorn them, it is a beautiful sight and fascinating to see local traditions still going so strong.
Semana Santa ´Toro Emboloa` in Vejer
Vejer is just recovering after a week or more of celebrations, first there was Semana Santa and then on the Sunday the town is filled with spectators for the Bull run through the streets. Two bulls are released int the streets and locos from all around come and take on the run of the bull!!
The streets are filled with people and the celebrations go on through the night. All the bars have music and stalls on the street. Any excuse for a party!
