La Janda Christmas Course

We are just planning our Christmas course here in La Janda

Come and enjoy a different way to live Christmas, an opportunity to combine language, culture and social events

Each year La Janda organises a special course and activity programme during the Christmas holidays. It is an original way to make the most of this festive period to improve your Spanish and get to know the popular culture of the country at this time. This option allows you to enjoy some days of mild weather, as well as celebrate the Christmas holidays ‘a la Española’. This course is particularly full of social and cultural activities and includes parties, traditional cookery workshops, visits to places of interest (such as the wine cellar in Vejer) and trips to Medina Sidonia and Arcos de la Frontera, as well as a live actuation of the nativity and market in the streets of Vejer.

The cost of the course is 420 euros for the 2 weeks including wine tasting, a day trip to Jerez and
a cookery class.

Accommodation can be arranged in a shared house, host Spanish family, private apartment or local hotel or hostal.

Jill Reece, from USA

Having just spent 8 weeks in Vejer de la Frontera, I have to say that it’s been a fantastic place for me to come to improve my Spanish and learn more about the deep historic roots and culture of Andalucía!

Because of its location, immersion in the language is something I couldn’t avoid. Vejer is off the beaten path high on top of one of the many rolling hills of the southern landscape of Spain. Along with wild olive trees dotting the outskirts of the town, the beautiful pink flowering bougainvillea decorate the numerous ancient stonewalls and colorfully tiled patios within the city.

My classes have been stimulating, very thorough and I’ve had my questions answered by knowledgeable, capable and qualified professors who not only offer their expertise to their jobs but also bring a true joy of sharing their native language into the classroom.  In addition to this, they’re probably the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

Along with formal classes in the classroom setting, the many excursions to places such as Cádiz, Tarifa, Bolonia, Morocco and surrounding areas have offered a practical way to exercise what I have learned during Spanish lessons.

Although I did take the opportunity to do a horse ride to the beach one day, explore other areas on foot, participate in learning how to cook some of the regional dishes such as Paella and Gazpacho, other fantastic opportunities for surfing or horse riding lessons are available. The school and the city of Vejer is a hidden gem in the heart of Andalucía and I hope I can share my experience with anyone else that’s interested in learning more Spanish and the culture of Spain.

New course: Spanish through Art and Drama

We are excited to offer a new course of Spanish through Arts and Drama, the course will be led by a Proffesional Artist.

In addition to exposure to the rich culture and geography of Vejer de la Frontera, our courses offer a specific focus on either drama or painting as a way in to learning Spanish. The aim of the course is to teach Spanish language and culture by immersing yourself into local culture, through the classes as well as excursions and other group activities. The course ends with a performance and an art exhibition, giving all the students an opportunity to share what they have learnt and produced during their stay in Vejer.

The price includes accommodation in an apartment shared with other students. For an additional fee, students can stay with a local family, thereby having the possibility to experience the heart of social and cultural life of the village and to practice Spanish in a friendly,  day-to-day environment.

The Course is for anyone who wants to learn the Spanish language regardless level, anyone who wants to improve their knowledge of Spanish and finally anyone who wants to dedicate themselves to painting or drama with professional teachers.

The Sun´s still shining in Southern Spain!

September is one of the best times of year to visit Vejer, and the Costa de la Luz. You still have the lovely warm temperatures without the crowds. You can enjoy the beaches practically to yourself, yet there is still a livley atmosphere with all the bars and restaurants in full swing.

Usually this lasts right till the end of October into November.

Vejer de la Frontera: A History, Book Launch in La Janda Success

The book launch for the book went really well and the Patio Andaluz provided the perfect setting to hold the event.

Guest speakers read out extracts from the book, with a back drop of photos both new and old of Vejer and its historic settings. The book got off to a flying start and many signed copies were aquired!

Vejer de la Frontera: A History, Book Launch in La Janda

We are very much looking forward to a new book that is coming out next week that has been written by an English woman who lives in Vejer. This book is the first book to compile an overview of the fascinating history of Vejer de la Frontera, in English. Vejer has a very long and winding history and we look forward to the Book Lauch party in the school on Monday and hearing some extracts from the book.

October Spanish and Walking Holiday

October Walking and Spanish Holiday in the Costa de la Luz
Walking and Spanish Holiday
Vejer de la Frontera is a small town near the sea (the nearest beach is eight kilometers away) that has preserved all the feeling and style of an Andalucian town. Making the most of Vejer’s geographical situation, with our teachers and group leaders we have decided to organize a Spanish and Walking Holiday. Participants will learn Spanish in the mornings and participate in guided walks of the region in the afternoons.

Studying Spanish with Colegio de Español La Janda means much more than just a Spanish language course. After 18 years dedicated to the teaching of Spanish, Colegio de Español, La Janda has recently changed hands and we hope to continue to build on the excellent reputation of the school. We feel that the school offers an excellent opportunity for students to experience the Spanish way of life in a small, beautifully conserved town just off the stunning coast of Cádiz. Colegio de Español, La Janda is the right place for those looking for more than just a Spanish course and is ideal for those who want to enjoy a different experience of Spain and Spanish culture, in a stunning natural environment.
Located in the most beautiful countryside. The Costa de la Luz  has become a walker’s paradise in the last few years with many routes now marked and detailed maps available. Spain's mild climate in the South and of course the wonderful light of the region, makes it an ideal destination for walkers and photographers throughout the year.

The Costa de la Luz has a great deal to offer walkers, with a number of national parks, offering mountains, forests, marsh lands and some of the last remaining virgin coastlines in Spain. October is a wonderful time to enjoy this area and the walking on offer. Benefiting from cooler temparatures but still very pleasant and dry and areas of coastline all to yourselves!

WALKING + SPANISH
The programme includes a great variety of walks. Walking Course dates
10th October
6 excursions with guide and small budget for drink and tapas, one group meal in a restaurant.

All transport included, travel insurance is required.
